Pidgin 2.7.11: Buddy icons not displaying

umm, not sure what that means, but I am using the MSN protocol that came  
with pidgin 2.7.11 (or how would I find out if I am?)
(also my friend who it all works with is also on 2.7.11 on the MSN protocol  
and everything works fine for him)
