Cannot connect to Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo IM

I just installed pigin and it does not connect to my Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo IM. 


I can run Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo and connect each of them OK, but I get errors when pigin tries to make the connections. 


I tried with the proxy set to "Use Global Proxy" and "Use Environmental settings", but neither worked. 


I tried with Windows Live Messenger running and with it not running. 


I'm currently running TrendMicro, but I don't know how to see if my firewall settings need changing.
