Facebook chat - Aliases & Groups

Hi all,
Is there a way to permanently assign Aliases or Groups to Facebook Chat Buddies?  Every time I assign an alias or group, it reverts after closing Pidgin.  I'm using the latest version on a Win 7 32-bit system.  Thanks.
