Yes if you are on the same local network, you can message her using
Bonjour.

If you are on separate networks, you should leverage something else with a
centralized server such as Google chat.

I'm not aware of a way yet to chat with the
iMessage<https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/14982>service.
