Very long start up time

Hi, I'm pretty new to Pidgin, I discovered it when facebook chat closed 
and its great! so I just use it for my facebook chat at the moment.
My problem is it takes a very long time to start up and login and 
wondered if I had something set up wrong ?

I always run pidgin first but I can then open and close many other 
programs before pidgin even starts at all.
I have the latest version (2.10.9)  and no plugins installed,  many thanks
