You might try experimenting with the settings in the Message 
Notification plugin (Tools > Plugins > Message Notification (in the 
Plugins list)).  Also, I think there may be some settings in the 
Windows-specific plugin (while I do have Pidgin installed on this 
system, I'm on a Linux system at the moment, so I can only guess based 
on my miserable memory :) )
