Pidgin status incorrect

Dear Pidgin Support Group, 

One of our clients in the Finance section reports: "Quite a few of us are on Pidgin and have the same problem. My status shows that I'm always "available" even if I manually set it as being "away". Even after I quit the application and shut down my laptop, I'm still "available". Please help fix." 

I have advised her to download the latest version of Pidgin and report back to me if the problem persists.
