Getting chat history when not logged in (IRC)

So I'm wondering if it's possible to log into an IRC server through Pidgin and show the chat that went on in the room prior to being connected. In mIRC, I've used the "/showlog" command and I guess it pulls the chat history from the server. But when connected to the same server through Pidgin, "/showlog" doesn't work and I can't find any plugin or option within Pidgin to give me access to that chat history.
Anyone know if it's possible, and if so, how?
