Getting Google Hangouts SMS integration to work in Pidgin

So I’ve seen a lot of older posts discussing how to get Pidgin to enable SMS support if you have it integrated with Google Hangouts. Since there’s been a number of changes to Hangouts lately, I’m trying to get them to work but to no avail.

I have a Moto X Pure with Android 5.1.1 (probably going to receive the upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0 in a couple weeks). I have Google Voice and using Hangouts as my SMS app. I receive text through both my GV number and my SIM card number.

I’m on Windows 10 using Pidgin 2.10.11.

I had found a Perl plugin that was supposed to work but I can’t seem to download and install the plugin onto Pidgin.

I’d like to be able to text from Pidgin through my phone via GV and SIM numbers. Any advice on what to do?
