IM Locked Out

To Whom It May Concern:

Why am I locked out of IM when I was trying to log into it using the same
password that I use to log into Pidgin? Are there two different passwords
(one for IM and one for Pidgin)? How do I reset the password for IM now
that I'm locked out?
