Cannot Seem to Make the System Work

New at this.  Thought had done everything correctly .. maybe not!!

As I am typing out the message I want to send - up pops  :  'Lost connection with server: Bad file descriptor'.  What does this mean and how do I fix it so this ceases to happen?
