 Wouldn't it be a simple matter to not show the buddy if the ID is the same
 as the one that's logged in?

 I frequently email things to myself as reminders, so my own email address
 is in my contacts, and is useful there.  There's no use to showing myself
 as an online buddy.

 What does Google's client do?
