 Lots of clients make lots of decisions we don't, personally I think the
 fact that Google conflates the address book and the roster is a mistake as
 it causes issues exactly like this (and the get-everyone-you-ever-emailed-
 set-in-your-roster bug which may or may not be fixed at the moment, I
 haven't thought about it much recently). Regardless, the ability to add
 yourself to your buddy list is something which is a good thing to have,
 your issue here is really that Google Talk conflates the two because you
 want it in one location and not in the other. I firmly believe that making
 gaim unable to do this (even with an option) is the wrong way to fix such
 an issue, especially since I don't believe adding yourself to your jabber
 roster is something that is really even explicitly supported by the XMPP
 specifications.
