 Right now, the plugins dialog looks a bit crowded and I think the
 expander really isn't the way to go here, it just doesn't look
 very polished.

 I propose simplifying the dialog as seen in the attached screenshot:

 - remove all but the name from the actual selection list

 - move all the other information plus the information in the expander to
 the right

 This would also mean the "short description" can be dropped, removing
 strings that have to be translated.
