Comment (by bjoernv):

 The locale problem is interesting. I use LC_COLLATE=POSIX:

 {{{
 $ locale
 LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
 LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_COLLATE=POSIX
 LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_PAPER="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_NAME="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.UTF-8"
 LC_ALL=
 }}}

 LC_COLLATE=POSIX is something other than, for instance
 LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8:

 {{{
 $ LC_COLLATE=POSIX      sort -t/ -u -o /tmp/1 po/POTFILES.in
 $ LC_COLLATE=en_US.utf8 sort -t/ -u -o /tmp/2 po/POTFILES.in
 $ LC_COLLATE=C          sort -t/ -u -o /tmp/3 po/POTFILES.in
 $ diff -q -u /tmp/1 /tmp/2
 Files /tmp/1 and /tmp/2 differ
 $ diff -q -u /tmp/1 /tmp/3
 }}}

 Should we take LC_COLLATE=POSIX or something other. I would prefer POSIX
 or C.
