 My opinion is that that the way logging is currently implemented is good,
 because then it is easier to merge logs from different machines at any
 time.

 From time to time I use two computers in one day and sometimes forget to
 bring the "new .gaim/.pidgin settings and logs directory" with me. This
 means I have to merge log and settings files later on and with current
 approach it is as simple as copying one directory "over" the other.


 Another thing that is slowly becoming annoying (after a year or logs) and
 is the amount of small files on my file system. Each of this little files
 takes up a whole cluster and this represents a lot of wasted disk space
 and really slows down disk searches (if I don't skip this directory tree).
 If logging would be realized in a day by day fashion this would be better,
 but imho the best solution (best placed in a plugin) is a tool that would
 merge all the small log files older than e.g. two months into larger files
 in month by month or week by week fashion (and delete the small ones after
 verification).
