 Re: getting gnome stuff from Blastwave -- for reasons much too complex
 to go into, I need to compile from source.  In the case of most of the
 software
 I use (e.g., xpdf, bind, mod_perl, mutt, uw-imap, sendmail, etc.) this
 isn't much
 of an issue, because the authors have taken care to make sure it works
 equally well on Solaris or OpenBSD or Ubuntu or whatever.   The GNOME
 stack is occasionally a problem, but usually it's just a matter of
 tweaking
 a Makefile, changing a config option, or similar.

 Re: pstack.  I'll see what that yields the next time I observe the
 problem.
 (I did provide truss output earlier but I'll grant that it doesn't seem to
 be
 particularly informative.)   As yet, I haven't come up with a repeat-by
 for
 this issue that lets me trigger it on cue, unfortunately.
