 Maybe instead of the half or third baloon, you could have the baloon with
 the number of days until the birthday transparent over the top, and maybe
 fade or shrink the baloon a bit to avoid confusion. You would also need a
 note of some sort in the tool tip.

 Perhaps this could also be implemented as a trigger for buddy-pounce?...
