 Hmmm... Well I am using something "marketed" as pidgin beta 7.

 It could be that I am simply used to the gaim method, and have grown
 accustomed to it. I like to categorise my contacts as to where I first met
 them, and have that span over multiple protocols. It certainly is not a
 showstopper - but I would like to somehow recover the old behaviour.
