 How do you solve the problems with different sizes of buddy icons? What
 about broken file transfers?

 There is no previous mention in this ticket of broken file transfers.  If
 file transfers are broken, search open tickets and provide information on
 a ticket with a similar issue, or if such a ticket doesn't yet exist,
 create a new one.

 Buddy icons and status icons are not related.  Currently Pidgin will
 automatically scale buddy icons to whatever size the protocol supports (or
 what size was known to be supported when the feature was implemented).
 All that has changed here is the move from protocol icons to status icons.
