 I can confirm that sadrul's change to fix 1 seems to work.  It looks like
 removing the icon is sending updates to the prpls now as well, but I'm not
 sure all the prpls are handling "remove icon" properly.  It's hard to
 really tell for sure.

 I agree with rlaager on 3.  It already does work as described except that
 it doesn't show the icon thumbnail on the button, which is confusing.
 That's probably not too hard to fix.
