 I have the same issue under Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft. I've been using Gaim up
 until now and though I'd try Pidgin, but I cannot set a protocol, the
 drop-down chooser does not function. I do think I saw something about
 libpurple as well during the ./configure
