 Pidgin crashes when attempting to log into jabberd 2.1.12.  The server
 is configured with the SASL mechanism digest-md5 commented out,
 meaning all that is left is plain.  Pidgin complains about the weak
 authentication method, and when you say to use it anyway, the crash
 occurs.

 The server was built from sources, and uses GNU SASL.  It available at
 http://www.jabber.org.
