 While I like you "keep it simple" approach, I just don't like the
 '''2-step''' process of inserting a smilie from the toolbar. This is not
 great usability to me, just hiding of stuff to make it look more simple.
 Grouping some stuff together is fine, like the image and link options, but
 please not the smilies.

 We use them all the time, and I really do not remember all the char-
 combos. Keep in mind that :) fx is not replaced with a graphical smilie
 while typing, so we are typing and guessing 'in the dark'.

 Having the smilies available just one click away is key here, and since
 2.1.0 it is pretty difficult. Remember, we are perhaps trying to remember
 smilies from several instant messengers.

 Otherwise I really like Pidgin, just waiting for some MSN features like
 PSM and custom emoticons.
