#2558: MSN Too Many Groups error
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
 Reporter: ben-xo | Type: defect
   Status: new | Priority: minor
Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.1.0
Keywords: msn groups buddy list | Pending: 0
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
My Buddy List is divided into 33 groups.

 A) When adding a new MSN contact and being asked to choose a group,
sometime it works fine, but other times I am given the error "Too Many
Groups" and the buddy is not added, and the buddy adding process is
 terminated.

 B) If this is a buddy I am adding manually, I have to try again, guessing
 which groups are acceptable.

 C) But if I am adding the buddy as the reciprocation of the "<x> added you
to their buddy list. <Add Buddy>" dialog, this dialog is closed and the
 buddy's screen name is lost!

 D) Upon shutting down pidgin and restarting, I am presented with an error
"Buddy List synchronisation error: local buddy not on server" and the
option to add to the server. If I accept, then I immediately get "Too Many
Groups" and the buddy is not added. If I decline, the buddy is deleted.
Either way, I have to write down the buddy name and re-add them manually.

As you can see, this is a number related bugs.

 1) A: Pidgin does not detect if there are too many groups on the server
until it is too late. (I accept this may not be possible, but it would be
nice to have a warning somewhere).

 2) A: Pidgin does not deal gracefully with a buddy add failure caused by
too many groups. (Actual behaviour: the add process is terminated as if it
succeeded, but the buddy is not added to the server list. Expected
behaviour: I should be presented with the option to choose another group
for the buddy I am trying to add if the failure was to do with choosing a
 bad group).

 3) B: Pidgin does not identify to the user which groups a buddy may be
added to without triggering an error.

 4) C: Pidgin throws away the notification that a buddy has added me to
their list without allowing me to add the user, if I try to add them but
choose a group that cannot be added to (same as (2) except that I lose the
 buddy's name entirely).

 5) D: Pidgin detects a buddy synchronisation error, attempts to fix it
(without allowing the change of parameters which caused the error), and
 perpetually fails to fix it.

Thank you! Let me know if you need any more info on this
