Comment:

 There should at least be two aspell entries in the Add/Remove Programs
 list.  One for the Aspell core and one for each dictionary installed (you
 need at least one dictionary for spellchecking to work).

 Is this what you're seeing?

 The aspell stuff is separate from Pidgin (and could be used by other
 programs); we don't ever remove it (but we do check that it exists before
 downloading and installing it).
