Comment:

 If you turn on editable accelerators (gtk-can-change-accels = 1 in
 .gtkrc-2.0 or the appropriate setting in GNOME or XFCE4), you can rebind
 the search dialog to some other keystroke, thus leaving ctrl+F free for
 your input method.  Then you can turn the editable accelerators off again.
