 In the buddy list, right click on any user, then click `Edit Notes`...
 Enter anything that has at least one newline in it (type shift + enter at
 some point), then click `Save`.

 When I hover over that user, instead of the usual tooltip information (how
 long the person has been logged in for, away message, etc.), all that is
 visible is the person's buddy icon.  When I remove the newline(s) from the
 notes, the tooltip returns to normal.

 If it matters, the newlines are being saved in `.pidgin\blist.xml` like
 this: `<setting name='notes'
 type='string'>test<br>comment</setting>`.
