 From  pidgin version 2.1.1, the inserting smileys takes one click more,
 because of rearrangement of toolbar items in conversation window. This is
 annoying when user use this often. And this is also useless change, when
 there are only two items on this toolbar ("Font" and "Insert") and lot of
 space after these items on the toolbar... Please get back 2.1.0 look of
 conversation window toolbar. (Also much more better would be if the
 floating window with smileys be also dockable to conversation window, but
 this is not the issue of this ticket ;))
