 Using the Google Talk protocol:

 Someone using the official GTalk client sees the "User has left the
 conversation" notice when a Pidgin user closes the window.

 Someone using Pidgin sees the "User has left the conversation" notice when
 another Pidgin user closes the window.

 However...

 Someone using Pidgin does NOT see the "User has left the conversation"
 notice when an official GTalk client user closes the window.
