 This problem has gotten MUCH worse since the introduction of XEP-0084 User
 Avatars. Pidgin is now converting *all* images to PNG format for XMPP,
 rather than allowing through already suitable JPEG images. This makes it
 virtually impossible to e.g. set a photo of yourself as your avatar
 without first scaling it down to a ridiculously small sized PNG.
