Comment:

This is sorta a duplicate of #305, though that ticket has a lot of stuff
in it. In some of the 2.0 betas, we had options to configure when the
docklet blinked, independently for ims and chats. For ims the options
were: never, hidden only, always. For chats: never, nick said, always.
When we killed off the prefs, we settled on always for ims and nick said
for chats. If I remember correctly, the detached conversations removed the
ability to make this configurable, though I'm sure it could be added back
 in relatively easily.

Back to the issue here, I don't think the behavior is bad the way it is,
though I'm not necessarily opposed to making it configurable. Most chats
are high enough volume where blinking for every new message (even only on
hidden chats) would be annoying. Maybe this could be a per-conversation
setting, so it could be set on lower volume chats, but left off on higher
 volume ones.
