 Just out of curiosity:

 I have tried everything. I go onto MSN (the actual MSN program) and I set
 my status to be online when I first sign in. (I originally had it set to
 offline on sign in because it would always lag) That didn't work. I have
 tried removing and re-adding the account, and still nothing.

 Are you running Pidgin and MSN Messenger at the same time? You can not set
 your status to online in MSN and expect Pidgin to have the same status.
