Comment (by metalzelot):

I still have this problem. So please reopen this ticket.

 I've two different setups:
 1) Linux from Scratch, Kde 3.5.2
 2) OpenSuse 10.3, Kde 3.5.7

I've tried the rpm's on the OpenSuse setup but I always had this problem.
I thought that it is maybe because of the not up-to-date rpm version which
 is 2.1.1.
So I tried to install the sources. Back then it was pidgin 2.2.2 and now
I've also tried 2.3.0. I always have the problem if I start pidgin. I can
fix it if i go to preferences and select "Show system tray icon: Never"
and toggle it back again to "Show system tray icon: Always". After this
fix the tray icon is displayed correctly for that session.

On my Linux from Scratch installation the behavior is different. The too
big tray icon only appears from time to time. I still don't see any
regularity within this behavior. I just fix it through restarting pidgin.
 Thats it.

I've also tried if there a difference between autostart pidgin or manually
start it, but there isn't. If I can serve you with any further
 information. Just tell me.
I think I dont have to attach any screenshots, it doesn't really look
different than the one attached to this ticket. It's just KDE not XFCE.
