Comment (by mystica555):

Do you not even realize what the "mobile device" group is for?

It is how AIM internally tracks those contacts (upto 20) that you wish to
appear on -your- mobile device. IE: I have a cellphone with mobile AIM.
Only those contacts in my "mobile device" group show up on said cellphone,
and to my dismay I am unable to copy contacts I wish to talk to on said
cellphone into this group. I am only able to _move_ them.. Therefore, it
must be possible to _COPY_ not _MOVE_ contacts to said mobile device list,
and, in the GUI it may be preferable to show this group as a "setup IM for
your mobile devices (palm, cellphone, blackberry)" option.

THIS IS NOT HOW AIM TRACKS MOBILE BUDDIES. That is done by showing a
'wireless' icon next to their name in ANY part of your buddy list.

I am rather surprised that nobody has realized this yet, apparently I am
one of the few who contacts my AIM friends on my cellphone on a regular
 basis.

Then again, I also IRC, SSH, use Opera, and last but not least text
message people on a daily basis. I'm planning on a blackberry rather soon
as the ultimate convergence device; a way to contact -anyone- via -any
methods- in the palm of my hand. Simultaneously. (My current phone, while
supporting java, does not in any sense of the word support 'multitasking')
