 still happens at 2.3.1 the issue is like this here:

 Trillian and MSN Messenger  can just connect without having to configure
 the client network connection.

 Miranda connects just right after setting the correct proxy configuration

 Pidgin and Amsn can't connect even after setting the correct configuration
 manually

 (here we are behind a proxy and a firewall which uses the windows domain
 authentication to get connected)
