 Update:

 Just tried something. I have kept the per-account proxy settings and then
 i set no proxy in the Global Proxy Settings. The login works ok, but there
 are these errors in the Debug Window:

 (20:19:56) dns: Got response for 'f3.yahoofs.com'

 (20:19:56) dnsquery: IP resolved for f3.yahoofs.com

 (20:19:56) proxy: Attempting connection to 66.94.226.22

 (20:19:56) proxy: Connecting to f3.yahoofs.com:80 with no proxy

 (20:19:56) proxy: Connection in progress

 (20:19:56) proxy: Connected to f3.yahoofs.com:80.

 (20:19:56) proxy: Error connecting to f3.yahoofs.com:80 (Connection
 refused).

 (20:19:56) proxy: Connection attempt failed: Connection refused

 So as far as i see, although i have a proxy setup per account, Pidgin
 still uses the No proxy setup in Global Proxy Settings for many operations
 for the account i have set the proxy.
