 Hi, got this today also with Pidgin 2.3.1.
 It was due to the error attributes in accounts.xml :
                 <current_error>
                         <type>0</type>
                         <description>Impossible de se connecter au serveur
 d'authentification :
 Erreur à la résolution du nom proxy.fr.xxxx.com :
 Échec temporaire dans la résolution du nom</description>
                 </current_error>

 I had two of these (one per enabled protocol). By remove the whole
 "current_error" I got my accounts back.
