 The pending status is deleted when the submitter responds.

 This is tricky... from a *very quick* look at the code, it looks like it
 is just firing based on the appropriate signals. So, for example, we're
 probably firing signed-on multiple times, which is NOT a bug. To deal with
 this, the buddy pounce code would have to keep some sort of state about
 which buddies it had fired for and suppress duplicate firings for a period
 of time.
