 I had the same problem for several month, but recently, following the
 advice found in another site, I changed my password on windows to the
 strongest strength (something really complex with special characters,
 capital letters and 14 characters long). After several login attempts on
 windows, and in pidgin, I have been able to log in ever since. This can be
 a walk round before the problem is actually solved.
