It would be beneficial to the user to warn them that when you choose to
save a password, that it is in plaintext (or warn them of the possible
consequences, danger of using a shared account on a machine, etc). Right
now, users would first have to suspect that it isn't being stored
encrypted and look for the right files for confirmation, or crawl your
site and happen upon it. This would comply with your position on storing
passwords in plaintext instead of giving a "false sense of security".
Currently, in short, users likely have no clue that it's being stored
plaintext and therefore are not aware of the dangers of doing so. A
warning right in the application would solve that problem. Perhaps it
could appear once they select the checkbox to "Save Password".
