#2064: invalid cast from `GtkEventBox' to `GtkButton'
-----------------------------+----------------------------------------------
 Reporter: Geek4AllSeasons | Type: defect
   Status: new | Priority: minor
Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.0.2
 Keywords: | Pending: 0
-----------------------------+----------------------------------------------
The following repeatedly appears in my debug log:

 (10:14:48) GLib-GObject: invalid cast from `GtkEventBox' to
 `GtkButton'[[BR]]

 (10:14:48) Gtk: gtk_button_get_relief: assertion `GTK_IS_BUTTON (button)'
 failed

I found ticket #1996. It reports the same or similar errors. Pidgin has
been stable, but there have been a couple of crashes. I wrote them off as
 WinDoz black holes.

This error may have been occurring since I upgraded from Gaim 1.5. I
became aware of it today, because I am unable to connect to irc.icq.
Actually the server disconnects immediately after a connection is
 reported.

This has happened before. I think the invalid cast error is unrelated.

 Pidgin is running on a PIIIx2 800MHz 1GB W2Ksp4.

OBTW. Searches work better if search terms are spelled correctly. (It's
kinda early.) A new search with Pidgin spelled right popped up some
 references to:

 Changelog.i386 ---------- Mon Jun 4 13:00:03 CEST 2007 ...
 factory/inst-source/ChangeLog]

The link contains: update to 1.4.6 - Uses GtkEventBox instead of GtkButton
 in tray icon.

 I think I was bad.

The Extended Preferences plug-in from Gaim 1.5 is installed. I wanted to
get rid of the task bar button. It seems to work externally. I didn't find
any warnings about using it in Pidgin. There may be a "failure to
 communicate" consistently across the interface.

If that's true, then "never mind".
