 I had the "Buddy Notes" and "Windows Pidgin Options" plugins enabled
 previously, and when I disabled them, this problem went away.

 When I re-enabled them the problem returned.

 When I re-enabled the "Windows Pidgin Options" by itself, Pidgin still
 closed without incident.

 Next I re-launched Pidgin and re-enabled "Buddy Notes", leaving "Windows
 Pidgin Options" enabled.  The first time I closed Pidgin after this, it
 closed properly.  But the next time it crashed as usual.  After launching
 Pidgin again and disabling "Buddy Notes" the program closed properly
 again.

 Once again I re-launched Pidgin and re-enabled "Buddy Notes".  Again the
 program closed normally.  But the next time I launched and closed Pidgin,
 it crashed.

 So for me, this problem seems to be related to the "Buddy Notes" plugin.
