 If your firewall is blocking ports you want to use you should fix your
 firewall to not do that, if even when you tell your firewall not to block
 a port it continues to do so you should get a better firewall and/or
 complain to the makers of your firewall that it sucks and should be fixed.
 If none of the above works or is viable then you can manually tell pidgin
 to try another port, one which you know isn't blocked, and see if that
 works. Having pidgin try random other ports is something I would consider
 broken personally. And I certainly see little reason to work around the
 fact that most Windows firewall software is just fundamentally broken. I
 understand your point, I am just not very sympathetic to people who write
 broken software and to the people who would rather work around it then
 make the companies fix it.
