 What part of "If none of the above works or is viable then you can
 manually tell pidgin to try another port, one which you know isn't
 blocked, and see if that works." did you not understand? If the default
 ports are blocked and you can't get the firewall admin to open them for
 you, and you really want to be on IM (despite it apparently not really
 being allowed, or the firewall wouldn't block it) tell pidgin to use a
 different port.
