 #1600 (actually the screenshot in it) provides some information that may
 explain this.

 You're using a nonstandard theme of some variety.  GTK+ tends to have
 issues when things work differently than they do "normally."  This would
 explain the number of issues that you've seen that others haven't.  If
 this is the case, there isn't a whole lot that we can do about this.
