 I'm currently at work, which would explain the internal address thing. But
 that same address does work for connecting with the normal AIM client, so
 it's probably just a NAT server of some kind.

 It's very possible that my network admins blocked the alerts server for
 reasons known only to themselves. If Pidgin is logging me off because of
 that, but the normal AIM client doesn't, that would certainly explain the
 issue.
