Comment:

 Any combination of N groups and M protocols can be represented by N * M
 groups at worst. In practice, it's never anywhere near that bad.

 Do you have a real example? A lot of people talk about "work" buddies in
 different groups, but I don't understand what the groups are. If they're
 "Engineering" and "Marketing", well... then that implies "work". If
 they're "Guys Named Bob" and "Red-Haired Canadians", then that's just
 crazy. If the group is "work", then there's no point.
