 sfranklin1717: I looked at the code again and I was wrong, Pidgin does not
 disconnect you if you can't connect to the alerts server.  So it looks
 like whatever you're connecting to is closing your connection.

 datallah pointed out that your connecting to an IP address on your local
 subnet, so it seems likely that your company is using some sort of IM
 monitoring or logging software.  And it seems likely that software is
 closing your connection.  I'd try talking to your network admins and see
 if they can help you.

 I can't think of any reason why the normal AIM client would work but
 Pidgin would not.
