#2220: Issues with Smileys/emoticons

Let me start by saying that I am not a very technologically advanced
person. I am not sure if I'm even writing this in the right place, or
preparing to send this into the abyss. If this is posted in the wrong
 place, I apologize in advance.

I've used GAIM for over a year and have loved it. Today I downloaded
Pidgin. Getting used to little changes and differences is inevitable, and
I'm sure there are more changes that I haven't even realized that I'll
learn to get used to, however one thing that I simply won't just used to
are the smileys. I understand that AIM has similar (identical?) horrid
face, however I can NOT use them.

After quickly skimming through the FAQ I found this page:
 http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/SmileyThemes - that really wasn't much
help. I'm sure it's nice if you are used to programing, but for your
average computer user it is very confusing. After attempting to create the
theme I want for almost an hour, I have given up. I think there are many
problems with it, but the top two have to be the fact that there is no
~/.purple/smileys and that it doesn't instruct you what to name it as. I
personally feel more comprehensive directions need to be written. In fact,
having the old smileys available to start with would be a great idea.

For reference, I'm specifically trying to use the classic AIM emotes, such
as the ones found here: http://elouai.com/aim-smiley.php

 Any help is appreciated.
